OUR MISSION

This is the reality of family court when domestic violence is involved. The focus shifts from, “How do we fairly divide assets and protect the best interests of the children?” to something far darker: “The abused parent will do anything to keep their child safe, and the abuser will spend any amount to maintain control.”

The Difference : YOUR SUPPORT

THE TOLL OF ABUSE

OKLAHOMA is the Ranked #1 in the Nation for Domestic Violence Related Deaths

Oklahoma fatality review data show an alarming pattern in how DV homicide cases are actually handled:

Conviction outcomes for homicide perpetrators:

Out of 78 domestic violence homicide perpetrators in Oklahoma charged in 2021–2022 who survived, only 19 (≈28%) had been convicted as of end of 2022 — a very low percentage relative to the number charged.

Investigations in Oklahoma found that most offenders court‑ordered to 52‑week batterer intervention programs don’t complete them. Without completion there is often “little or no punishment,” allowing abusers to avoid meaningful consequences and increasing risk of re‑offending.

Impact on Children

In Oklahoma 2022, there were about 13,546 confirmed child abuse or neglect victims.

In 2022, U.S. data show ≈558,899 children were victims of abuse or neglect

Oklahoma’s confirmed maltreatment rate (~14.2/1,000) is nearly twice as high as the national average (~7.7/1,000)

Courts frequently fail to translate DV incidents into serious, final consequences

Many DV homicide defendants don’t have convictions even years later, showing prolonged court backlogs and limited accountability.

How Common DV Is in Family Court Cases (U.S. Stats)

Domestic violence is extremely prevalent in family law matters — family courts in the U.S. see a very high share of abuse‑related cases.

About 40–60% of family court cases involve DV or abuse issues.

In ~65% of cases where abuse is claimed, custody may still be granted to the alleged abuser without protective conditions.

Data from the CDC and other sources show that approximately one in five homicides in the U.S. involves an intimate partner, and over half of female homicide victims are killed by a current or former male partner.

In a Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) study of violent felony cases in 15 large U.S. urban counties, ~1 in 3 violent felony defendants were charged with domestic violence.

Every donation goes towards providing Immediate Resources for Domestic Violence Victims and their families to STOP the CYCLE of ABUSE

The Emberline Initiative’s FIRST INITIATIVE is to build 35 safe haven homes to provide an immediate escape from the abusive partner for themselves and their children. YOUR DONATIONS allow us to pay for shelter for victims while the Non-Profit secures grants to begin building safe communities.
